Troubling Times and Silver Linings

Forced indoors, limited travel, and a focus on personal holistic health & wellbeing like never before. Over the last few years, the pandemic caused lives to be turned upside down as businesses crashed, loved ones were lost and the whole world came to a near standstill, from which it is still recovering.

Due to the long-term stresses of the turbulent times of Covid, mental health has become a ‘hot topic’ as the overall mental wellbeing of the globe declined rapidly. Along with other wellbeing indicators (physical, financial, occupational, social, spiritual, intellectual, and environmental) throughout the pandemic.

Despite the negative impacts, stresses and strains of the past few years, silver linings are abundant. Now, people are significantly more conscious of their health and wellbeing, key issues in society have been spotlighted for address and life has changed, in many ways, for the better.

A New Adventure for Wellbeing

Like many new ventures, the origin of Victoria Falls Yoga began in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. In December 2020, after completing my honours degree in Psychology in the bustling city of Cape Town, South Africa I had plans to move to Ireland to embark on my career in Employee Wellness management. However, en route to starting to a career overseas, I unexpectedly found myself ‘stuck’ (for much longer than expected thanks to Covid) in the bush city of Victoria Falls in my home country, Zimbabwe.

Somewhere amongst the frustrations, personal mental health struggles and stresses of the pandemic, I was forced to slow down to the pace of the nature to take time to reflect within myself and embrace the uncertainty of the times we were in. As a result, I found myself reconnecting with the bush and wildlife within it, which I had loved as a child growing up in Zimbabwe, and had unfortunately lost touch with in my 10 years studying abroad.

Undeniably, this time in Victoria Falls changed me drastically… I found myself having not changed into a new person, but rather having evolved back to my truest self – A nature lover and conservationist with a passion for helping others to reconnect and elevate their health and wellbeing. From this evolution of self, grew the concept that is Victoria Falls Yoga today.

Beyond Your Yoga Mats: Conservation Wellness Safaris

To ensure we can continue to enjoy these wellness retreats in the wilderness, we also work to give back to the wildlife conservation industry in a very unique way… In partnership with The Wildlife Initiative Trust Africa (WITA), we will be running a series of Conservation Wellness Safaris to both raise funds and awareness about the work of this exciting new organisation.

During our safaris, not only will you enjoy two hours of yoga a day, and an exciting range of safari activities, we will also learn about the work we are funding. We will get an exclusive behind the scenes experience of WITA through a K9 demonstration and interaction, meeting the rangers and assist them with their patrols, visiting the community-based operations as well as meeting some of the amazing wildlife this trust is helping protect.

Connect with us on social media and take a step towards a happier, healthier and more wholesome version of yourself today.
