Designed around the theme “Life on the River”, the interiors evoke a feeling of Afro Chic comfort with edges of luxury. A young Zimbabwean, female architectural worked with founder, John Gardiner to create a space which provides guests with a real sense of place. Inspired by Zimbabwean materials, that really brought the buildings to life.

Matetsi Victoria Falls is passionate about investing in its community. They commissioned custom artwork and various other features throughout the space from local artisans. The entire staff complement at the lodge hails from Zimbabwe and works tirelessly to show guests the hospitality unique to our country. They are also actively involved in conservation and sustainability throughout the reserve and surrounding areas.

Where is it?

The lodge sits along a private 15 km stretch of the Zambezi within the Matetsi Private Game Reserve. Matetsi Victoria Falls’ have exclusive traversing rights across this vast 136,000-acre wilderness area, and therefore offers guests the ultimate in privacy, ensuring an exclusive and tranquil stay. Reaching Matetsi Victoria Falls is a breeze, with complimentary road transfers offered within the Victoria Falls area. It is also accessible by road from Livingstone in Zambia and Kasane in Botswana.

There is a private helipad and airstrip on the property. Helicopter transfers are available from Victoria Falls and charter flights from Harare or Bulawayo International Airports. Travelling to the lodge by helicopter gives guests an extraordinary chance to include a scenic “flight of the angels” over Victoria Falls in their transfer.

What are the rooms like?

Matetsi Victoria Falls has three accommodation options, all equally blissful. Each room faces the breath-taking view provided by “The Great River”. The property is available on a full- or part-exclusive-use basis. Full-exclusive-use guarantees that guests are the only visitors on the entire reserve, whereas part-exclusive-use creates a private camp from the western guest area.

Private Villa

Matetsi’s private four-bedroomed villa is ideal for multi-generational families travelling together. It comes with a dedicated team, private chef, butler and its own safari vehicle and personal guide. The villa allows you to tailor your Zimbabwe safari experience to your preference.

Matetsi River House features four bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms surrounding open plan indoor and outdoor living areas. The house has a private pool and kitchen, so guests are provided with everything on a private basis.

Luxury Suites

Each tastefully furnished suite provides an exclusive riverside view and private plunge pool. The rooms are air-conditioned and feature a king-size bed, bath, and indoor and outdoor showers.

Family Suites

Matetsi Victoria Falls embraces the luxury family holiday and welcomes children of all ages. They have curated safari activities with family in mind. Their luxury Family Suites consist of a master bedroom with a king-size bed and an adjoining twin-bedded room for children connected by an enclosed passageway. Both rooms have air-conditioning and en-suite bathrooms, as well as a private outdoor terrace and plunge pool.

Chefs Shane and Artwell oversee the Matetsi Victoria Falls culinary team, producing delicious cuisine with locally sourced ingredients. Eating at Matetsi is as much an adventure as any safari. The lodge offers guest dining areas in both the East and West camps, private in-room dining as well as bush-dining experiences.

A favourite of many is the Boma nights, where guests eat meals prepared on an open fire under the stars. You can also expect sunset game drives complemented with ice-cold gin and tonics and dinner served with iconic and interesting South African wines, selected from Matetsi’s very own, outstanding wine cellar.
